DEBUT INDIE SHORT BLURS THE LINE BETWEEN
REALITY TV AND ARTHOUSE DOCUMENTARY
"Will 'The Glimpse' have impact? Park City resident hopes for a nod from Sundance." - The Park Record, 12/1/2003
NEW YORK, NY, AND PARK CITY, UT – Taking a cue from the popularity of reality TV and blended with the introspective sophistication of art house documentaries, Amy Casey's directorial debut reveals a unique perspective into the elusive pursuit of one artist's Holy Grail. "Amy's Faith" is the first episode of a planned series of shorts entitled THE GLIMPSE.
Recently previewed at New York City's FREIGHT Film Salon, a home for independent filmmakers, "Amy's Faith" viewers found the short an original concept with great potential for mass appeal. "It's a raw, docu-reality, in-your-face, fly on the wall look at thirty-five-year old real-life Bridget Jones," said Jacquie Jordan, TV producer.
A Park City Arts critic noted that Amy is an up-and-coming talent in the region.
"Plays, stand-up comedy, film and television pepper Casey's résumé. She even worked in the theatre along side actor/celebrity Edward Norton at the Columbia School of Theatrical Arts in Maryland," said Casey R. Basden, in a recent article in the December 1st edition of the Park City Record.
Amy Casey, the 35-year old director and star of the series, is a multi-talented and aspiring actress. Shot with her home video camera, the short features an indomitable Amy going about her day-to-day activities, with the relentless introspection of an artist and long-time New Yorker. Off-beat and up-beat, Amy dances to the beat of her own drummer, yet also comes off as an everyman, voicing the insecurities and determination of the common experience.
As director and producer, Amy is pursuing the tedious, complicated process of pitching the series for television, and submitting to Sundance, Slamdance, SXSW, Tribeca, Gen Art, and HBO Comedy Arts film festivals. She also has scored a chance to pitch her concept at a meeting with Jason Weiss, Director of Development for Foglight Entertainment.
"I became a filmmaker to share my experience of truth, arouse thought, and connect and inspire others. I decided to take life by the balls and just do it," said Casey. "This is my first film and it exposes my soul to the world; no holds barred. Most of the footage was shot alone and by me."
Amy Casey is available for interviews and appearances.
